Speakers Bureau - Would you like more opportunities to get in front of the public and present financial literacy workshops in Connecticut?
FPA of Connecticut is bringing back its popular “Speakers Bureau” program -- a free benefit for all current members of FPA CT. The Speakers Bureau is a part of our Pro Bono/ Public Awareness efforts and offers members the opportunity to gain valuable exposure within CT by delivering presentations on various financial topics.

These events will be virtual for now and will go back to in-person when practicable. There is a wide array of speaking opportunities to choose from ranging from “budget planning” for low-income households to “investment management” & “estate planning” for mid-to-high income households. So, if you enjoy presenting financial concepts and you’d like to gain exposure as a subject matter expert in Connecticut, please email our Chapter’s Pro Bono/Public Awareness Director Chuck Failla.

Financial Literacy in your local classroom – Are you interested in presenting a financial literacy session in your local town high school?
This opportunity is exclusive to FPA members and offers you the opportunity to go into your local high school and present a one-day turnkey presentation developed by NexGen Personal Finance.

We have built a list of local business teachers who are looking for guest speakers to come in and teach a class (or classes) about investments and the power of saving. The slides and script have all been put together. You just need to review it and coordinate a date with the contact we give you for your local high school. We are currently building our list of FPA members who are looking to give back to the community and teach personal finance.

As you know, personal finance is an important topic. When we do not teach children about personal finance – about managing household budgets or making informed decisions about larger investments in an education or a home – we are condemning them to learning it largely and perhaps entirely on their own, if at all. CT Jump$tart recently surveyed the 170 school districts and found that while 90% of the school districts in CT offer personal finance as an elective, less than 10% of the school districts require the class as a graduation requirement. If you are interested on being on this list, please email me, Chris Lee.

Pro Bono Veteran Opportunities - Are you looking for ways to give back to the Veteran community?
For the first time, we have an opportunity to offer Pro Bono services to our veterans who have served our country, protected our freedoms, and now need your financial expertise!

This is a new initiative that our Chapter is coordinating in conjunction with the Connecticut Veterans Legal Center and we need volunteers to help veterans who are receiving lump sums of money (many of whom have never had money before) and need guidance on how to budget and best to make this money last. The commitment is to work with one veteran over a six-month period, meeting virtually (or by phone) and checking in bi-monthly. If this opportunity interests you, please email our Pro Bono/Public Awareness Director Chuck Failla.

Meet your local FPA board – Are you curious to know who serves on your Chapter board?
As you may know, the three previous Connecticut state chapters merged into one robust chapter as of January 1st. We invite you to share your skill, your talent, your passion to ensure the success of our new Chapter. If you are interested in being one of the movers and shakers in our industry, please email me, Chris Lee, to learn about possible leadership opportunities in 2021 and beyond! There are many meaningful ways to contribute to the financial planning profession that match your lifestyle and business.

Thank you for your continued commitment to making the FPA and our profession ever better.
