Who’s Speaking? About What? Robert Rodriguez of the New Britain office of Social Security Administration will present the following program:
Social Security: You Have Questions, We Have Answers! The purpose of this session is to increase the knowledge base of planners in understanding the value of Social Security programs and services. Our presenter will discuss the use of the Social Security Statement as a financial planning tool, ensure planners are current on SSA changes and rules, and increase awareness of existing tools and resources available to them and to the public. An overview of the SSA website will be one of the highlights of the presentation to educate and engage the attendees.
Learning Objectives: (1) Educate planners on the benefits of online access to Social Security accounts to encourage them to promote to clients the advantages of instant access, anytime, anywhere, to the redesigned Social Security Statement, earnings records and estimated future benefits and to support their use for financial planning. (2) Inform planners on the Changes to Social Security Claiming Strategies: Bipartisan Budget Act of 2015. This Act ended a significant and previously widely used claiming strategy for married couples, thus altering the landscape for individuals looking to maximize their benefits. (3) Understand the Social Security Administration website to inform the planner and client on what SSA offers, including written and audio information, electronic services, and public information and education events. SSA provides information for financial planners at www.ssa.gov/thirdparty/groups/financial-planners.html.
